Professional movers and packers can help ease the stress of moving and ensure your move goes smooth. Moving to a new area offers opportunities for personal exploration and growth.  Starting fresh means being better able to objectively stand back and evaluate your goals and aspirations. Figure out what makes you feel alive and whole and go after it!  Perhaps it’s an exercise class with an energetic new instructor. Or maybe you are inspired by finding a new church or civic organization to become involved with. When you move to a new area the personal growth opportunities are wide open for you to explore!

ACADEMIC OPPORTUNITIES

A new city may put you in the proximity of some exciting educational opportunities.  Take time to learn about local colleges, universities, and trade schools. Easing the Stress of a Long Distance Move

in Local Moves, Long Distance Moves, Military Moves, Moving & Storage, Piano Movers

We are continuing our series of articles focusing on ways you can help ease the stress of a long distance move. Our previous articles covered the importance of consolidating your belongings, hiring an experienced moving and storage company, preparing for your movers and packers to arrive, and making sure your kids and pets are ready for what lies ahead. Today, we will cover a few more tips to help your long distance move go smooth.

PACK EVERYONE A BAG

Since there could be some time in between when you and your belongings arrive to your new home, be sure to pack everyone a bag with at least a few days’ worth of clothes, toiletries, medication, and any other essentials.  Be sure to do this for your pets, too. You may also wish to keep valuables and important paperwork in your possession as well.

TURN ON THE UTILITIES

Having the utilities active when you arrive to your new home can make everything much less stressful. Moving into a home without electricity or running water presents its own set of challenges. Be sure to contact utility companies a few weeks ahead of time and let them know your move-in date. Be sure to provide payment for any deposits as well.

Tips for Long Distance Moves

Tips for Long Distance Moves

in Long Distance Moves, Moving & Storage

We are continuing our series of articles offering some valuable long distance moving tips as recommended by our experienced team of full service movers.  Our previous article covered the importance of consolidating the items you plan to move and hiring a reputable moving and storage company. Today, we will look at two more tips to consider.

PREPARE FOR THE MOVERS AND PACKERS TO ARRIVE

You will need to take some time to prepare for your movers and packers to arrive. Hopefully you have been in the process of consolidating and purging items you no longer need.  You will also need to make sure the areas the movers and packers need to access are clear and ready for them to utilize. You should also place items you plan to take with you in a separate area so they your movers and packers do not accidently pack and load them onto the truck.  Make sure you turn off and unplug all electronics.  And try to find a place for your children and pets that is out of the way to help avoid accidents.

PREPARE YOUR KIDS AND PETS

Speaking of children and pets, it is also a good idea to help prepare them for your long distance move. Talk with children so they understand what is happening. Make sure you have filled your pets’ prescriptions and have enough treats, food, etc. for the trip.  If you are driving and traveling with pets and plan to stay in a hotel, be sure to identify ones along the way that are pet friendly.

Our next article will cover more long distance moving tips recommended by our movers and packers.

Tips to Help Your Long Distance Move Go More Smoothly

in Local Moves, Long Distance Moves, Moving & Storage

Long distance and local movers will tell you that local and long distance moves are quite different. Preparing for a long distance move often requires more planning and lead time. Our next series of articles will discuss some tips to help make your long distance move go smooth.

CONSOLIDATE

The first thing your movers and packers recommend doing once you have decided to make a long distance move is consolidate the items you plan to take with you.  Remember, the more items you have to move, the more it will cost so if there are items, furniture, etc. that you know you will not use in your new home, then now is the time to toss them. If they are still in good, working condition, you could also sell them at a garage sale, consignment shop, etc. or donate them.

HIRE A MOVING AND STORAGE COMPANY

The next step is hiring and scheduling a moving and storage company to handle your long distance move. You need to consider a moving and storage company that not only has good reviews, but is reputable, has been in business for awhile, and also has the capability, equipment, and manpower to manage and execute long distance moves.

Our next article will cover more long distance moving tips.

Pre-Moving Donation Tips: Food Banks

Pre-Moving Donation Tips: Food Banks

in Local Moves, Long Distance Moves, Moving & Storage, Piano Movers

As you purge items in preparation for your upcoming move, you may come across food items. Although movers and packers will gladly pack and transport them, you may decide you wish to start fresh and not take them with you. If this is the case, then you can either give them to family and friends or donate them to a local food bank. Let’s take a look at some of the items food banks will accept and the ones they will not.

ITEMS THEY WILL ACCEPT

Food banks welcome canned items including soup, food, sauces, fruits, fish, meats, and veggies and more. They also need pasta, rice, beans, cereals, oats, juice, cookies, crackers, condiments, candy, and peanut butter. Nutritious food and items that are high in protein are especially desirable.

ITEMS TO TOSS

Items that are out of date cannot be accepted by most food banks.  Any food that has been opened should also be tossed. Food banks also shy away from cans or packages that do not have a label. Fresh items that require refrigeration are also questionable since they may not be able to determine how well or long the item had previously been refrigerated.

Pre-Moving Donation Tips: Thrift Stores

Pre-Moving Donation Tips: Thrift Stores

in Local Moves, Long Distance Moves, Moving & Storage

As you prepare for your upcoming move, you will likely come across items you either want to get rid of or no longer need. Purging should be complete before your movers and packers arrive. The options you have when purging items include selling them yourself (i.e., garage sale, online ads, etc.), bringing them to a consignment shop, throwing them away, or donating them to a thrift store. Donating them can offer tax benefits and provide a quick, easy way to get rid of them. However, not all items are ideal for thrift stores. Let’s take a closer look:

ITEMS THRIFT STORES WELCOME

Most items that are in good condition and operate properly are welcomed by thrift stores. This includes, but is not limited to, gently used clothing (except socks, underwear, bras, and bathing suits), furniture, home décor, tools, toys, books, school supplies, games, linens, purses, sporting goods, belts, hats, ties, luggage, small appliances, artwork, pots and pans, electronics, shoes, coats, and more. While thrift stores will often refrain from accepting used socks, underwear, bras, and bathing suits, they definitely welcome these items if they are new with the tag. So, if you have any items that still have the tag on them that you do not plan to wear, then donating them to a thrift store is an option.

ITEMS BETTER SUITED FOR THE TRASH

When evaluating items, a good rule of thumb is that if you would throw it away, then the thrift store will do the same. Items that are better suited for the trash include broken items, chipped dishes, stained/damaged furniture, and clothes that are ripped, worn, or stained.  Many thrift stores will also refuse mattresses, automotive batteries, tires, weapons, large appliances, and chemicals.

As a reputable full service moving company for more than three decades, your friends at 3 Guys Moving understand the process of moving and the stress that it can bring. Managing Your Stress During a Move

Managing Your Stress During a Move

in Local Moves, Long Distance Moves, Moving & Storage

Our movers and packers have seen it all and are committed to doing everything in their power to make your move as stress-free as possible. We are continuing our series of articles discussing some ways you can manage your stress during a move. Our previous article discussed the importance of beginning to prepare your move several months in advance and also designating a “get away” space that is free of clutter. Today, we will explore more ways to ease the stress of moving.

ASK FOR HELP

Don’t be afraid to ask family and friends for help. Even when you hire a moving and storage company to handle the packing and moving, there is still a lot of prep work before the move. And, let’s not forget all of the unpacking after the move. You may also need help with picking up children from school, cleaning, organizing, and other tasks.

DON’T SLACK ON SELF-CARE

The tasks involved with moving can be time consuming, however, don’t neglect your self-care routine. Take time to read, go for a massage, take a walk on the beach, listen to music, enjoy a cocktail on your porch. Whatever makes you happy, make sure you carve out some time to do it as this can help keep your stress at a manageable level.

Hiring a full service moving company with experience can make all the difference. 3 Guys Moving is one of the few moving companies that was founded more than 30 years ago and is still in business today. Our long distance and local movers pride themselves on providing excellent and efficient moving services.  Don’t settle for just any full service moving company. Longevity does matter.  Give your friends at 3 Guys Moving a call today.

Managing Your Moving Stress

Managing Your Moving Stress

in Local Moves, Long Distance Moves, Moving & Storage, Piano Movers

Moving is stressful. Our movers and packers have helped hundreds of stressed out homeowners get through their moves. Our next series of articles will discuss some ways to manage and reduce stress.

GIVE YOURSELF PLENTY OF TIME

It is wise to begin prepping your move at least a few months in advance.  Even if your home is not sold and you don’t have another one lined up, you can still begin the planning process. Make an inventory of items you wish to keep, interview moving companies, have a garage sale, etc. These are all tasks you can do well ahead of time so that when you are ready to move, you won’t be working on such a tight and stressful timeline.

DESIGNATE A “GET AWAY” SPACE

Clutter can drive a person nuts, and at various points during your move, you will likely be faced with clutter. It is important to designate an area of your home as a “get away” space where you and your family can still maintain some semblance of peace and normalcy. This can be either an indoor space like a spare bedroom or an outdoor area such as a porch or patio.  Florida rooms are also great spaces to utilize for this purpose.

Our next article will provide more tips on how to manage your stress during your move.

Things to Do Before You Move

Things to Do Before You Move

in Local Moves, Long Distance Moves, Moving & Storage

We are continuing our series of articles designed to provide you with recommendations of tasks you should consider before you move. We’ve previously discussed the importance of measuring your new residence, getting rid of items you no longer use or need, making a plan for items that cannot be moved by a full service moving company, and carefully selecting your moving company. Today, we will discuss two more tips to help you prepare for your move.

MAKE AN INVENTORY OF ITEMS YOU WILL BE TAKING WITH YOU

It is helpful to make an inventory of items you plan to take with you when you move. Not only does this help ensure your movers and packers don’t miss anything, but you will be thankful for your inventory list when it’s time to unpack. Your inventory can be as fancy as a spreadsheet on your laptop or tablet, or as simple as a handwritten list.

PREP THE AREA BEFORE YOUR MOVERS AND PACKERS ARRIVE

One way to ensure your move is as efficient as possible is to prep the area before your movers and packers arrive. Try to place items that will not be packed or moved by your moving company in a separate area. Keep floors and hallways as clear as possible. Set up a separate area for your children and pets so they don’t accidently get hurt while your full service movers are working.

3 Guys Moving is a moving and storage company dedicated to the satisfaction of our valued customers. We have been in business for more than three decades. Our long distance and local movers and packers are experienced and committed to ensuring your move goes as smooth as possible. Not all moving companies are equal. If you are planning an upcoming move, then trust the full service movers whose excellent reputation precedes them. Give your friends at 3 Guys Moving a call today!

Consider These Tips Before Your Move

Consider These Tips Before Your Move

in Local Moves, Long Distance Moves, Moving & Storage, Piano Movers

Our previous article discussed the importance of measuring your new residence to make sure all of your furniture not only fits in the rooms, but through doors, hallways, etc. We also covered the importance of getting rid of items you no longer need before your move. Today, we will look at a few more tips as recommended by our professional full service movers.

PLAN TO MOVE ITEMS THAT MOVERS CAN’T

There are certain items that cannot be transported by a packing and moving company. Be sure to contact your full service movers to inquire about their policies and any items in question. If there are materials that your movers and packers are unable to handle, you will need to make other arrangements to transport them. If you need to move some items yourself, take time to come up with an efficient plan to do so. Read more about the various types of items a packing and moving company cannot move.

CAREFULLY SELECT YOUR MOVING COMPANY

It is important to be very selective when it comes to hiring a packing and moving company.  Look for customer reviews, longevity, and years of experience to help you narrow down your choices. Unfortunately, there are numerous fly-by-night and less than reputable moving companies. It is well worth your while to do your homework and research.

Our next article will cover more things you should consider doing before you move.
